⁴ For You are not a God ^(G)who takes pleasure in wickedness;
^(H)No evil can dwell with You.
⁵ The ^(I)boastful will not ^(J)stand before Your eyes;
You ^(K)hate all who do injustice.
⁶ You ^(L)destroy those who speak lies;
The Lord loathes ^(M)the person of bloodshed and deceit.
⁷ But as for me, ^(N)by Your abundant graciousness I will enter Your house,
^[d]At Your holy temple I will ^(O)bow in ^(P)reverence for You.

⁸ Lord, ^(Q)lead me ^(R)in Your righteousness ^(S)because of my enemies;
Make Your way ^[e]straight before me.
⁹ For there is ^(T)nothing ^[f]trustworthy in ^[g]their mouth;
Their ^(U)inward part is destruction itself.
Their ^(V)throat is an open grave;
They ^[h]flatter with their tongue.
¹⁰ Make them pay, God;
^(W)Have them fall by their own schemes!
^(X)Scatter them in the multitude of their wrongdoings,
For they are ^(Y)rebellious against You.

¹¹ But ^(Z)rejoice, all who ^(AA)take refuge in You,
Sing for joy forever!
And ^[i]may You ^(AB)shelter them,
That those who ^(AC)love Your name may rejoice in You.
¹² For You ^(AD)bless the righteous person, Lord,
You ^(AE)surround him with favor as with a shield.

³ For the wicked ^(E)boasts of his ^(F)soul’s desire,
And ^[c]the greedy person curses and ^(G)shows disrespect to the Lord.
⁴ The wicked, ^[d]in his haughtiness, ^(H)does not seek Him.
^(I)There is no God in all his schemes.

⁵ His ways ^(J)succeed at all times;
Yet Your judgments are on high, ^(K)out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he snorts at them.
⁶ He says to himself, “^(L)I will not be moved;
^[e]Throughout the generations ^(M)I will not be in adversity.”
⁷ His ^(N)mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and ^(O)oppression;
^(P)Under his tongue is harm and injustice.
⁸ He sits in the ^(Q)lurking places of the villages;
He ^(R)kills the innocent in the secret places;
His eyes ^[f]surreptitiously watch for the ^[g](S)unfortunate.
⁹ He lurks in secret like ^(T)a lion in his ^[h]lair;
He ^(U)lurks to catch ^(V)the needy;
He catches the needy when he pulls him into his ^(W)net.
¹⁰ Then he crushes the needy one, who cowers;
And ^[i]unfortunate people fall by his mighty power.
¹¹ He ^(X)says to himself, “God has forgotten;
He has hidden His face; He will never see it.”

¹² Arise, Lord; God, ^(Y)lift up Your hand.
^(Z)Do not forget the humble.
¹³ Why has the wicked ^(AA)treated God disrespectfully?
He has said to himself, “^[j]You will not require an account.”
¹⁴ You have seen it, for You have looked at ^(AB)harm and provocation to ^[k]take it into Your hand.
The ^[l](AC)unfortunate commits himself to You;
You have been the ^(AD)helper of the orphan.
^15 (AE)Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer,
^[m](AF)Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

¹⁶ The Lord is ^(AG)King forever and ever;
^(AH)Nations have perished from His land.
¹⁷ Lord, You have heard the ^(AI)desire of the humble;
You will ^(AJ)strengthen their heart, ^(AK)You will make Your ear attentive
¹⁸ To ^[n]vindicate the ^(AL)orphan and the ^(AM)oppressed,
So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause ^(AN)terror.

⁶ I have ^(O)called upon You, for You will answer me, God;
^(P)Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.
^7 (Q)Show Your wonderful faithfulness,
^(R)Savior of those who take refuge ^[d]at Your right hand
From those who rise up against them.
⁸ Keep me as ^[e]the ^(S)apple of the eye;
Hide me ^(T)in the shadow of Your wings
⁹ From the ^(U)wicked who deal violently with me,
My ^(V)deadly enemies who surround me.
¹⁰ They have ^(W)closed their ^[f]unfeeling hearts,
With their mouths they ^(X)speak proudly.
¹¹ They have now ^(Y)surrounded us in our steps;
They set their eyes ^(Z)to cast us down to the ground.
¹² He is ^(AA)like a lion that is eager to tear,
And as a young lion ^(AB)lurking in secret places.

^13 (AC)Arise, Lord, confront him, ^(AD)make him bow down;
^(AE)Save my soul from the wicked with ^(AF)Your sword,
¹⁴ From people by ^(AG)Your hand, Lord,
From people ^[g]of the world, ^(AH)whose portion is in this life,
And whose belly You ^(AI)fill with Your treasure;
They are satisfied with children,
And leave their abundance to their babies.
¹⁵ As for me, I shall ^(AJ)behold Your face in righteousness;
^(AK)I shall be satisfied with Your ^(AL)likeness when I awake.

⁹ So my soul shall ^(O)rejoice in the Lord;
It shall ^(P)rejoice in His salvation.
¹⁰ All my ^(Q)bones will say, “Lord, ^(R)who is like You,
Who rescues the afflicted from one ^(S)who is too strong for him,
And ^(T)the afflicted and the poor from one who robs him?”
^11 (U)Malicious witnesses rise up;
They ask me things that I do not know.
¹² They ^(V)repay me evil for good,
To the bereavement of my soul.
¹³ But as for me, ^(W)when they were sick, my ^(X)clothing was sackcloth;
I ^(Y)humbled my soul with fasting,
But my ^(Z)prayer kept returning to ^[d]me.
¹⁴ I went about as though it were my friend or brother;
I ^(AA)bowed down ^[e]in mourning, like one who mourns for a mother.
¹⁵ But ^(AB)at my ^[f]stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together;
The ^[g](AC)afflicted people whom I did not know gathered together against me,
They ^[h](AD)slandered me without ceasing.
¹⁶ Like godless jesters at a feast,
They ^(AE)gnashed at me with their teeth.

¹⁷ Lord, ^(AF)how long will You look on?
Rescue my soul ^(AG)from their ravages,
My ^(AH)only life from the lions.
¹⁸ I will ^(AI)give You thanks in the great congregation;
I will ^(AJ)praise You among a mighty people.
^19 (AK)Do not let those who are wrongfully ^(AL)my enemies rejoice over me;
Nor let those ^(AM)who hate me for no reason ^[i](AN)wink maliciously.
²⁰ For they do not speak peace,
But they devise ^(AO)deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.
²¹ They ^(AP)opened their mouth wide against me;
They said, “^(AQ)Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen it!”

^22 (AR)You have seen it, Lord, ^(AS)do not keep silent;
Lord, ^(AT)do not be far from me.
^23 (AU)Stir Yourself, and awake to my right
And to my cause, my God and my Lord.
^24 (AV)Judge me, Lord my God, according to Your righteousness,
And ^(AW)do not let them rejoice over me.
²⁵ Do not let them say in their heart, “^(AX)Aha, our desire!”
Do not let them say, “We have ^(AY)swallowed him up!”
²⁶ May ^(AZ)those be ashamed and altogether humiliated who rejoice at my distress;
May those who ^(BA)exalt themselves over me be ^(BB)clothed with shame and dishonor.

²⁷ May those ^(BC)shout for joy and rejoice, who take delight in ^(BD)my vindication;
And ^(BE)may they say continually, “The Lord be exalted,
Who ^(BF)delights in the prosperity of His servant.”
²⁸ And ^(BG)my tongue shall proclaim Your righteousness
And Your praise all day long.

⁶ God, ^(I)shatter their teeth in their mouth;
Break out the fangs of the young lions, Lord.
⁷ May they ^(J)flow away like water that runs off;
When he ^[h](K)aims his arrows, may they be as ^[i]headless shafts.
⁸ May they be like a snail which goes along in slime,
Like the ^(L)miscarriage of a woman that never sees the sun.
⁹ Before your ^(M)pots can feel the fire of thorns
He will ^(N)sweep them away with a whirlwind, the ^[j]green and the burning alike.

¹⁰ The ^(O)righteous will rejoice when he ^(P)sees vengeance;
He will ^(Q)wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
¹¹ And people will say, “There certainly is ^[k](R)a reward for the righteous;
There certainly is a God who ^(S)judges on the earth!”

⁹ Because of ^[k]his ^(T)strength I will watch for You,
For God is my ^(U)refuge.
^10 [l]My God ^(V)in His faithfulness will meet me;
God will let me ^(W)look triumphantly upon my enemies.
¹¹ Do not kill them, ^(X)or my people will forget;
^[m](Y)Scatter them by Your power and bring them down,
Lord, ^(Z)our shield.
^12 [n]On account of the ^(AA)sin of their mouths and the words of their lips,
May they even be ^(AB)caught in their pride,
And on account of ^(AC)curses and lies which they tell.
^13 [o](AD)Destroy them in wrath, ^[p]destroy them so that they will no longer exist;
So that people may ^(AE)know that God ^[q]rules in Jacob,
To the ends of the earth. Selah
¹⁴ They ^(AF)return at evening, they howl like a dog,
And prowl around the city.
¹⁵ They ^(AG)wander about ^[r]for food
And ^[s]murmur if they are not satisfied.

¹⁶ But as for me, I will ^(AH)sing of Your strength;
Yes, I will ^(AI)joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the ^(AJ)morning,
For You have been my ^(AK)refuge
And a ^(AL)place of refuge on the day of my distress.
^17 (AM)My strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my ^(AN)refuge, the ^[t]God who shows me favor.

⁵ God, You know ^(I)my foolishness,
And ^(J)my guilt is not hidden from You.
⁶ May those who wait for You not ^(K)be ashamed because of me, Lord ^[e]God of armies;
May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,
⁷ Because ^(L)for Your sake I have endured disgrace;
^(M)Dishonor has covered my face.
⁸ I have become ^(N)estranged ^[f]from my brothers,
And a stranger to my mother’s sons.
⁹ For ^(O)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And ^(P)the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.
¹⁰ When I wept ^(Q)in my soul with fasting,
It became my ^(R)disgrace.
¹¹ When I made ^(S)sackcloth my clothing,
I became ^(T)a proverb to them.
¹² Those who ^(U)sit in the gate talk about me,
And ^(V)songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, ^(W)at an acceptable time;
God, in the ^(X)greatness of Your mercy,
Answer me with ^[g]Your saving truth.
¹⁴ Rescue me from the ^(Y)mud and do not let me sink;
May I be ^(Z)rescued from those who hate me, and from the ^(AA)depths of water.
¹⁵ May the ^[h](AB)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the ^(AC)pit close its mouth on me.

¹⁶ Answer me, Lord, for ^(AD)Your mercy is good;
^(AE)According to the greatness of Your compassion, ^(AF)turn to me,
¹⁷ And ^(AG)do not hide Your face from Your servant,
For I am ^(AH)in distress; answer me quickly.
¹⁸ Come near to my soul and ^(AI)redeem it;
^(AJ)Ransom me because of my enemies!
¹⁹ You know my ^(AK)disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor;
All my enemies are ^[i]known to You.

²⁰ Disgrace has ^(AL)broken my heart, and I am so sick.
And ^(AM)I waited for sympathy, but there was none;
And for ^(AN)comforters, but I found none.
²¹ They also gave me ^[j](AO)a bitter herb in my food,
And for my thirst they ^(AP)gave me vinegar to drink.

²² May ^(AQ)their table before them become a snare;
And ^[k](AR)when they are at peace, may it become a trap.
²³ May their ^(AS)eyes grow dim so that they cannot see,
And make their ^(AT)hips shake continually.
^24 (AU)Pour out Your indignation on them,
And may Your burning anger overtake them.
²⁵ May their ^[l](AV)camp be desolated;
May there be none living in their tents.
²⁶ For they have ^(AW)persecuted him whom ^(AX)You Yourself struck,
And they tell of the pain of those whom ^(AY)You have ^[m]wounded.
²⁷ Add ^(AZ)guilt to their guilt,
And ^(BA)may they not come into ^(BB)Your righteousness.
²⁸ May they be ^(BC)wiped out of the ^(BD)book of life,
And may they not be ^[n](BE)recorded with the righteous.
